The Workplace Relations Amendment (Work Choices) Bill passed through Federal Parliament on December 2nd 2005. During the course of its passage through parliament the Senate held a short inquiry into the legislation. BCA made a submission to this inquiry. During September 2004, BCA made a submission to the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission’s (HREOC) call for comments asking whether a public inquiry on issues affecting people with disabilities and equal employment opportunity should be undertaken. BCA stated unequivocally in its submission that a public inquiry should be conducted on this important issue.
In February 2005, HREOC announced a public inquiry into employment and disability. BCA made a comprehensive submission to this inquiry.
During September 2005, BCA made a submission in response to HREOC’s interim report for the Inquiry titled ‘Workability: People with a Disability in the Open Workplace’, which was released during August 2005.
The final report of the Inquiry titled ‘Workability II: Solutions’, was tabled in Federal Parliament on Tuesday, 14th February 2006. The report can be viewed online in plain text HTML at http://www.hreoc.gov.au/disability_rights/employment_inquiry/final/toc.htm
