Blind Citizens Australia (BCA): National Policy

Social Inclusion

The Australian Government, as part of its social inclusion agenda, is exploring ways to develop a new and stronger relationship with the non profit sector. BCA is actively participating in this consultative process. Read more here.

The consultation paper is at http://www.socialinclusion.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx.

AHRC Submission on Cinema Exemption

As part of the BCA Audio Description campaign, the four main Australian cinema chains have agreed to make 47 screens nationwide fully accessible for movie goers who are blind or vision impaired. The chains have requested an exemption from further Disability Discrimination Act complaints for the 30 months it will take to equip the cinemas. BCA has supported the granting of the exemption dependent on several critical guidelines. Read the BCA submission to the Australian Human Rights Commission.
