Blind Citizens Australia (BCA): National Policy
In September 2009 the Federal government release its electoral reform Green Paper 'Strengthening Australia's Democracy'. BCA, as part of our ongoing campaign for an independent, secret and verifiable ballot for Australian voters who are blind or vision impaired made a submission. Read the BCA electoral reform submission.
BCA's position on accessible voting asserts that blind and vision impaired citizens should have access to an independent, secret and verifiable vote at all Federal, State and Council elections. The particular system of electronic voting BCA is advocating for is called Electronic Assisted Voting (EAV). To find out more about this form of e-voting, see BCA’s submissions below to the 2005 Victorian E-Democracy Inquiry and the 2005 Federal Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters (JSCEM) inquiry in to the 2004 Federal Election.

Help BCA lobby for a trial of Electronic Assisted Voting to be conducted in other Australian States and the Northern Territory: While BCA is pleased with the Victorian and Federal governments initiatives to introduce a trial of electronic assisted voting, there are still many Australian’s who are blind or vision impaired living in the states of New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory who are still unable to cast an independent, secret and verifiable vote at their State/Territory elections. We call upon people who are blind or vision impaired and other supporters living in these States/Territory to lobby their local Members of Parliament to introduce a trial of electronic voting at their next election. Below there is a link to a template of text you can use to email your local State/Territory MP and/or use as a reference if you choose to call or visit your member on this important issue. If you are unsure who your local MP is and what their contact details are, links are provided on the page to help you find these details in your State/Territory.
