Blind Living - Hair, Beuty and Fashion
YBCV recently completed production of the first Blind Living booklet – Hair, Beauty and Fashion. This is intended to be the first in a series of booklets on varied topics, providing advice from blind and vision impaired youth to other blind and vision impaired youth, concerning aspects of every-day living. Blind Living - Hair, Beauty and Fashion is aimed at issues of hair, make-up and fashion for girls, covering everything from simple techniques to specific product suggestions. Thank you to everyone who contributed professional advice as well as handy tips and disaster stories.

Express Make Overs 2008
While the YBCV committee worked to write the “blind Living” booklet “Hair, Beuty and Fashion,” we also took on a side project, taking people into the body shop for express make overs. The body shop offered this as a free service. Blind or Vision Impaired people were able to walk into the shop and have their base, eyes or lips made over free of charge. This included a thorough consultation with a sales representative who assessed their skin types and what colours would be best for them. Everyone met at Flinders street and traveled to the Collin’s Street store together. It was great to also have the chance to catch up for a coffee afterwards.
Scrapbooking 2008
Over the mid semester break YBCV organised two scrapbooking sessions for people to get together and discuss strategies and tools they find useful for arts and crafts. A number of people attended the sessions and everyone seemed to have a great time. Most people worked on making fantastic scrapbooking cards.
The sessions were fantastic and demonstrated that with a few adaptations and a good eye for new techniques and resources blind and vision impaired people were capable of creating some great artworks. Melissa, in particular, now thinks that everyone in her house from now on will only be getting home made cards from her. She’s totally hooked on scrapbooking.
In the Dark While Raising Children: A Blind Parenting Seminar)
On Sunday February 17, 2008, the YBCV committee held the first major event for YBCV this year: The blind parenting seminar: In The Dark While Raising Children. The event was highly successful and informative for the many people who attended. For more information, visit our parenting seminar page.
