This page lists the current and upcoming projects for YBCV. Head over to the completed projects page to see the projects we have completed since 2007.
some of the projects have associated documents for download, such as session programs or registration forms. These documents may be provided in Microsoft Word, Rich Text or text document format, indicated by "(doc)", "(rtf)" or "(txt)" at the end of the link. You may therefore wish to "save target as..." from the right click context menu on those links to save the documents to your computer, rather than opening them directly from the web page.
The YBCV committee is currently organizing two major projects:
We are constantly after feedback and new ideas so please read more about the projects we are currently looking at and e-mail us with any comments you have.
Blind Living Booklets - Cooking
YBCV is putting together booklets of advice from blind and vision impaired youth to other blind and vision impaired youth. Our first booklet is completed, and was aimed at issues of hair, make-up and fashion. Head over to the completed projects page for more information and to download the booklet.
The next Blind Living Booklets will be on Cooking. With the very positive response created by the first Blind Living booklet, YBCV is hoping to put together a second booklet in the near future, which will focus on issues related to Cooking, including tips and advice. Everyone is welcome to contribute. We are looking for people to write a paragraph of advice they want to pass on.
So to contribute, we are asking that you e-mail us either your idea or a paragraph with your name (first names are fine) and age, as we wish to use this to give credit to all people who contribute to the booklet. We would also ask if you could include your e-mail address for YBCV committee use only so we can get in contact with you if we need to. We are continually prowling for great tips so please have a think about it and e-mail us any comments you have.
A Mentor Program
YBCV is advocating about the benefits young blind and vision impaired people can get from positive contact with other blind and vision impaired people. The program looks at linking up younger individuals, as young as 10 with an older mentor. The mentors would be roughly between the age of 16 and 30. the individuals would consult via e-mail and phone etc and provide a support person who they can talk to about blindness issues succ as education, friends, public transport and self advocacy. YBCV would then offer group days once every two months. The group days would give everyone the opportunity to come together to do activities and discuss issues on a broader level. Please give us your ideas for important issues you feel effect young blind and vision impaired people and ideas on potential group day activities.
We will shortly be looking for young blind and vision impaired people who wish to participate in this project. Participants are welcome from the age 10 upwards to be involved as a junior in the program and from 16 upwards to be considered to be a mentor.
