After a very successful program last year, the NSW/ACT State Division of BCA is running its Spring into Action program again this October. When the State Division came up with the idea, it was designed to encourage BCA branches throughout NSW and the ACT to consider holding an event during the month of October to coincide with the NSW/ACT State Convention, providing members another way of catching up as a group.

BCA members could organise special lunches at various locations, visits to art galleries and even virtual online events for those challenged by distance. This was also an opportunity for members to be seen in the wider community, promoting independence and inclusion, whilst encouraging people who are less confident, or may have only recently lost their sight.

Five branches will be taking part in Spring into Action this year. Details for these events are listed below.

Branch: Tweed Valley

Event date: Saturday, October 19th
Venue: Tropical Fruit World

Event info: Members and friends of the Tweed Valley branch will board a bus on the morning of Saturday, October 19th for a scenic trip to Tropical Fruit World, nestled in the glorious Tweed Valley Hinterland.

Upon arrival, they will be taken via tractor train through plantation and experience hands-on fruit picking followed by a guided tour. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without some fruit tasting as well, followed by lunch.

For more details, please contact Branch President Suzanne Hudson on 0431 399 845.

Branch: Newcastle/Hunter

Event date: Saturday, October 19th
Venue: Historical Bank Hotel

Event info: Members and friends of the Newcastle/Hunter BCA branch will board the Northern Rivers XPT train on the morning of Saturday, October 19th for a very comfortable and nostalgic trip to Dungog, located in the Upper Hunter Valley.

Upon arrival around mid-morning at the historical town of Dungog, there will be some time for a little sight-seeing in the main street enjoying its rich colonial history and even purchasing some of its locally grown produce as well. There will of course be time for a morning coffee at one of the great little coffee shops.

Then it will be on to the Bank Hotel, one of the oldest hotels in NSW, for a fabulous lunch and perhaps a locally produced wine or two.

Finally, back to the station for the trip home, and of course lots of yarns and the plans already underway for the next Spring into Action event.
