Join us for BCA Connect, our first Virtual Conference, where we’ll be sharing information on important topics, providing you with the opportunity to ask questions, and as is tradition with all Blind Citizens Australia events, there will be plenty of opportunities to socialise and reconnect.
Throughout the day we will be joined by a number of experts, government representatives and key decision makers. This is a great opportunity to have your say and find out more about issues that are impacting on the lives of people who are blind or vision impaired.
Saturday 17th October 2020
10:30am – 5:30pm AEDT
6:00pm – 8:00pm AEDT
Log In Details
Details on how to join via your computer, tablet, smart phone or landline will be provided in your program after you register.
Your program will also include information on how to access Zoom, including some short cut keys.
If you haven’t used Zoom before, don’t worry. In the week leading up to the event we will be running a session for anyone who is new to the platform. This is your chance to practice dialling in and experience using Zoom before the big day. Staff will be on hand to answer any technical questions you may have so that you’re all set for the 17th of October.
$30 per person
This is a non-refundable payment. Due to the virtual nature of the conference, there are no part-day registration options. However, recordings of sessions will be made available to registered participants after the event for those unable to attend the full conference. This will be of particular benefit to our members living in Western Australia, for whom we appreciate that a 7:30am start may be too early.
When you register, you can choose whether to receive your program in braille or large print (providing you register before 5:00pm AEST on 15th September 2020).
You can register at any point before 15th October and have your program sent via email as either an electronic braille file or in a word document.
While we have done all we can to make the event affordable, if there are significant challenges for you in meeting the cost of registration, financial assistance may be available to enable you to attend BCA Connect. Please call Angela Jaeschke – General Manager Operations on 1800 033 660 to discuss your options prior to registering.
Conference registration will open at 10:15am to give you time to settle in. Official proceedings will commence at 10:30am. Our MC for the day will be Tim Haggis, BCA’s National Membership Development Coordinator.
We’re excited to provide you with an update on Audio Description as part of our welcome address which will be followed by time for questions and answers with representatives from SBS and the ABC.
Throughout the day we will also be joined by representatives from the Disability Royal Commission and from several key bodies involved in handling complaints.
BCA will also be launching some exciting new policies and initiatives including our revamped Healthcare policies and two brand new member capacity building programs.
We will be breaking up into state based groups during the afternoon to discuss matters of importance for our individual states. These forums will cover topics such as transport or employment.
As always, we’ll provide plenty of opportunities to socialise. We’ll break into small groups over lunch so you can chat. At the end of the day you have the opportunity to stick around for some social events. Our National Women’s Branch will host a virtual pub, and as has become tradition, we’ll run our regular trivia night as well.
