Blind Citizens Australia (BCA) is excited to announce the appointment of Miriam Beswick as Business Manager, a new role focused on strengthening organisational operations and supporting our work across the blindness and disability sector.
Miriam brings extensive experience across government, commercial and not-for-profit environments. Most recently, she served as a Member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly, where she was a strong and consistent advocate for the community.
During her time in Parliament, Miriam contributed to key inquiries into disability discrimination and ADHD support services and served on the Joint House Gender and Equality Committee.
Miriam’s connection to BCA is deeply personal; as a BCA Associate Member and the partner of someone who is legally blind, she brings a strong understanding of the barriers faced by the community and a commitment to disability-led advocacy.
“I’m excited to take on this role and be part of what keeps BCA running strong as an organisation,” Beswick said.
“When things are running well behind the scenes, it allows us to focus on the work that matters most to our members.”
Miriam is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and holds a Bachelor of Public Relations (Management) and a Graduate Certificate in Management.
She has previously held senior roles as a Program Manager and Business Manager, specialising in financial management, governance and organisational transformation.
“Miriam brings a rare combination of policy insight, operational expertise and a deep understanding of the disability landscape,” BCA CEO Deb Deshayes said.
“This role is about strengthening the systems and structures that underpin our work, and Miriam’s experience will help ensure we continue to operate effectively and sustainably as an organisation.”
BCA will continue working with sector partners to strengthen operations and drive better outcomes across the sector.
