On Tuesday, 5th August, BCA Inform delved into an update on the crucial topic of Audio Description (AD) on TV. Angela Jaeschke, BCA’s General Manager of Operations, led the session and welcomed members of the AD Working Group.

Discussions covered the need to expand AD supporter networks, address gaps such as the absence of live AD for major events and explore the role of technology. Concerns about quality differences between Australian and international AD was also discussed.

The importance of direct user feedback to broadcasters was emphasised along with clear quality benchmarks for AI use, and the development of Australian-specific standards. The session ended with a commitment that BCA will follow up with further actions to advance AD on broadcast TV.
