On Tuesday, 9th September, BCA Inform focused on the important topic of BCA’s response to the Review of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). The session was opened by Vaughn Bennison, BCA President and Melanie Chatfield, BCA Policy Officer, who provided background on the history and purpose of the Act.

Discussion centred on five key areas where members were invited to share their views: definitions, positive duty, adjustments, access to information and digital accessibility, and complaints and compliance.

Attendees raised concerns about the Act’s reactive nature and its limited enforcement mechanisms. The need for various reforms was highlighted, including stronger penalties, expanded powers for the Human Rights Commission and improved access to legal representation.
