You have an awareness of the issues faced by people who are bind or vision impaired such as accessibility, inclusion and impacts of discrimination.

You demonstrate operational excellence, with the ability to design and maintain rigorous systems that keep our organisation stable and strong. You are a practical problem-solver who enjoys working with people, but you also possess the discretion and meticulous attention to detail required to manage sensitive HR and financial data.

Position Fundamentals

Purpose

This position provides high-level oversight and hands-on management of BCA’s operations, including finance, IT, governance, human resources and risk. The Business Manager is responsible for strengthening BCA’s internal efficiencies and ensuring the “back-of-office” engine runs effectively to support the organisation’s strategic goals.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight: In consultation with the CEO, Treasurer and Finance Service Partner, oversee all accounting activities and payroll.
  • Human Resources: Oversee all HR functions including recruitment, induction, performance review documentation, and compliance with the SCHADS Award and Fair Work legislation.
  • Governance & Company Secretary: Act as a Co-Company Secretary to ensure BCA is compliant with ACNC and ASIC requirements, annual financial audits, and AGM procedures.
  • Risk & Policy Framework: Lead the implementation of BCA’s risk management framework, maintain the Risk Register and ensure all organisational policies (WHS, Privacy, etc.) are fit for purpose.
  • Systems & IT: In consultation with IT support, act as the Product Owner for the CRM to optimise data use and cybersecurity.
  • People Leadership: Provide mentorship and support to direct reports, ensuring activities are integrated and aligned with BCA’s strategic operational plan.
  • Board Support: In consultation with the CEO, Chair of the Finance, Audit, and Risk Committee, prepare briefing papers and budgets.

Reporting

Actively contributes to reporting for Federal and State Government funding, as required, ensuring all reporting deadlines are met.

Manage monthly board reports and ensure all reporting deadlines are met.

Administrative tasks, including answering phones, responding to emails, data entry, and reporting.

Reporting Relationships and Delegations:

This position reports to the CEO.

Direct Reports: Information and Administration Officer, Communications Coordinator, Fundraising Manager.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Mastery of written and verbal communication, ensuring clarity and impact.
  • Proven ability to convey complex information concisely and compellingly, both written and spoken.
  • Proven experience in organisational governance and the ability to represent BCA’s operational interests to internal and external stakeholders, such as auditors, Committees and the Board.
  • Proven ability to establish relationships, collaborate and engage with relevant teams and stakeholders
  • The ability to work collaboratively with staff in a remote environment; including the ability to be self-motivated in completing tasks to a deadline.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Conditions and Benefits

  • This position is a fixed-term contract, until March 2028.
  • The position has a national focus, and is a remote role, working from home.
  • 30 hours per week (some weekend and evening work will be required).
  • Salary is under the SCHADS Award – level 7.

You have a nuanced understanding of the barriers faced by people who are blind or vision-impaired and are passionate about bridging the gap between current industry standards and true accessibility.

Position Fundamentals

Position Purpose

To execute BCA’s advocacy initiatives by delivering targeted information and building influential networks. The Systemic Advocacy Lead is responsible for devising, coordinating and delivering strategies, campaigns and projects as new opportunities arise and existing initiatives develop. This role will provide creativity in developing and implementing engaging campaigns, and ensure the dynamism, ambition and successful coordination of all aspects of a given campaign or project.

This position will consult with BCA members and partner organisations to prioritise advocacy topics. The role focuses on advancing systemic change, with the current topics of importance including audio description; taxi and rideshare refusals for dog guide handlers; accessible appliances; accepted forms of ID; Aged Care reform and inclusive employment.

The Federal Government’s responses to the Disability Royal Commission recommendations and progress will also influence priority areas.

Roles and Responsibilities

Stakeholder Engagement & Industry Liaison:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for industry and government, providing evidence-based information to drive systemic accessibility improvements.
  • Represent BCA on relevant national committees and forums, offering technical and lived-experience insights to influence industry standards.
  • Build collaborative relationships with advocacy partners to ensure a unified approach to systemic change.

Build Awareness:

  • Execute targeted initiatives to increase awareness of relevant issues.
  • Translate member and sector feedback and existing policy into persuasive briefings, reports, and info-kits that guide stakeholders toward actionable change.
  • Develop and distribute educational resources and purposeful content that highlight lived-experience barriers and best-practice solutions.
  • Monitor political and industry trends to ensure BCA’s advocacy resources remain timely and relevant.

Coordination, Consultation & Reporting:

  • Consult with BCA members, blindness sector organisations, and advocacy organisations, to ensure all advocacy work and information sharing is grounded in current community priorities.
  • Support the Policy Officer in distributing public policies to ensure they reach and influence the intended audiences.
  • Track engagement metrics and industry progress to contribute to board reports.
  • Perform essential administrative tasks, including email management and data entry.

Reporting Relationships and Delegations

This position currently reports to the CEO.

This position has no direct reports.

This position works closely and in collaboration with BCA’s Advocacy Officer, Policy Officer and others in the BCA team.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Experience in Policy, Campaigns, and Project Management.
