Blind Citizens Australia, (BCA) is the national representative organisation of people who are blind or vision impaired.  Our mission is to inform, connect and empower Australians who are blind or vision impaired and the broader community.

Position Purpose

This position is a parental leave cover for a project which is funded up until 30th June 2026. The Project Coordinator will manage the continued delivery of Blind Citizens Australia’s “Eye to the Future” project. Eye to the Future focuses on increasing employment opportunities for people who are blind or vision impaired through changing the perspectives of employers, recruiters and HR professionals.

A full handover will be provided by the current Project Coordinator between 2nd – 13th March.

Eye to the Future is funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA) Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) Economic Participation grant. https://eyetothefuture.com.au/home/

The Eye to the Future project’s objectives are to:

  • change perceptions within the workplace for people who are blind or vision impaired.
  • showcase employment success stories.
  • offer peer support opportunities.
  • refine and develop tools, resources, and workshops to both employers and employees around: inclusion, accessibility, adaptive technology, and employability.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • You will work autonomously and complete the agreed project outcomes.
  • Manage all aspects of project development, administration and records management.
  • Manage the monitoring and reporting requirements for projects, including data management and project evaluations.
  • Represent BCA and the project objectives at external events.
  • Develop and update resources and materials designed to promote inclusion, accessibility, adaptive technology, and employability.
  • Develop opportunities for job seekers who are blind or vision impaired to access peer support and information.
  • Ensure that the project outcomes are sustainable and ongoing.

Focus Areas for the Project

  • Support the implementation of the RISE program, an emerging leaders course, including liaising with the course facilitator, and providing administrative support to participants and mentors of the program.
  • Maintain connection with major partners, ensuring ongoing communication, updates and promoting collaboration and resource-sharing opportunities.
  • Contribute to the final project report.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to consult, negotiate effectively and develop networks with a range of people and partners.
  2. Demonstrated high-level project management skills and proven capability to manage complex projects with multiple priorities and deadlines on time and on budget, within a not-for-profit environment.
  3. An understanding of the employment landscape for people who are blind or vision impaired.
  4. Strong grasp of technology, especially Microsoft Word, Outlook and SharePoint.
  5. High-level conceptual skills, including the ability to solve complex problems.
  6. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write clear and accurate reports.
  7. Ability to develop online and in-person presentations and deliver effectively to various audiences.
  8. A strong commitment to improving employment outcomes for people who are blind or vision impaired.

Duty Statement

  • The position has a national focus. The successful applicant can take advantage of flexible remote working arrangements, working from home.
  • 38 hours per week (some weekend and evening work may be required).
