On Tuesday 2nd December, BCA Inform delved into the topic of Employment. The session opened with an update from Rachael Johinke, BCA’s Project Coordinator for An Eye to the Future, who outlined the project’s current priorities and recent initiatives. Rachael introduced a new resource – “BCA’s Jobseeker e-Guide,” a practical step-by-step guide to navigating employment as a blind or vision impaired jobseeker. Rachael also introduced BCA’s new emerging leaders course – RISE (Resilience, Insight and Skills for Employment), which will support emerging leaders to build confidence, communication skills and community connections. Designed as an accessible and supportive learning space led by mentors with lived experience, the RISE Program will open for applications soon.

David Plummer from See Differently then discussed services available and the new Inclusive Employment Australia initiative. He explained how See Differently helps clients build experience through volunteering and offered practical job search strategies, including tailoring resumes, understanding employer needs and engaging directly with recruiters. The session concluded with an open Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to further explore inclusive employment pathways, workplace adjustments and available supports.
